From dream to reality, Dana Kim proves that no goal is too big when you love what you do.
As a child growing up in Korea, Dana’s natural talent for art and design emerged as she excelled in national art competitions.
Dana dreamed of being an artist and, after high school, she attended fashion school where she learned everything from sewing to design. Dana attributes her education in fashion as a key skill that helped her accelerate her career in hair styling.
In 1993, Dana and her husband moved to Hawaii to start a family. Even as a housewife in a new country, Dana knew that one day she would become a hairstylist.
Dedication to Hair Design
“When I was little and went to a beauty shop, I always felt happy. I just knew I was going to do hair, but I had to wait for my kids to get older,” Dana recalls.
As soon as both children were in school, Dana took the opportunity to further her education through beauty school.
Dana Kim’s focus and dedication propelled her to the top of her class. Upon graduation, Dana sought an assistant position at Paul Brown Salon & Spa in Honolulu.
Paul Brown and his staff were so impressed with her skills that she was able to skip the assistant position and begin her career as a hairstylist at a high-end salon. This is an uncommon feat for most beauty school graduates!
As a new hair stylist at Paul Brown Waikele, Dana was excited but nervous. However, her calming personality and attention to detail quickly drew in repeat customers. She was fully booked within 6 months and has enjoyed a growing relationship with loyal clientele ever since.
After leaving Paul Brown Waikele, Dana continued her career on the Windward side of Oahu, where she worked at The Fix Kailua for over 10 years. Now that her children are in college, Dana is taking her dream to the next level with Salon Dana in Kapolei.
With this new chapter in her life, Dana is excited to share her love of hair design and quality customer service with residents and visitors of West Oahu.
